Hautacam Climb

Dificulty - Black
Distance - 52km
Elevation Gain - 1230m

The Hautacam - A climb made famous by the Tour de France, was last included in the 2008 Tour and was back again in 2014 as a mountain top finish at the end of Stage 18 on the 24th July. The route below includes a loop around the Argeles Valley to add some distance.

The climb itself is about 15.8km long at an average of 6.8% gradient, though there are a couple of short 10% sections. All the way up there are panoramic views of the Argeles Valley and  the Val d'Azun, which should distract you from the fact you're riding a "Hors Categorie" climb. Good news is, there's a cafe at the top, open during the summer months ...

You can buy the official Topoguide "Velo de route" Map book here from Ardiden Velos or from the Office d'Tourisme in Luz St. Sauveur. It has separate cards for 20 of the best road bike routes in and around Luz St. Sauveur that you can take with you on your ride. It's in french and the photos are a bit old fashioned, but the maps are easy to follow and the routes are still as awesome as ever!
